With over 400,000 spectators over the race weekend, as well as security, stewards, fire and medical, management, and the race teams all trying to get in and out of site, a resilient and well planned two way radio system was a critical part in ensuring traffic flow was continual and road closures were lifted on time to avoid penalties.
The traffic management system extended far beyond the circuit boundary with radio coverage required over a 15 square mile area, and with a mixture of hand portable, mobile, and desk radio units.
After carrying out site trials, we were confident that coverage could be achieved across the required area. We supplied Motorola equipment because of the type of units required i.e. hand portable, mobile, desk and repeater for coverage. This range gave seamless communication from the event control room within Silverstone, on site and on the feeder roads.
This equipment was chosen based upon a number of factors:
We also provided audio accessories within the control room and around site to ensure communication was discrete and audible due to the areas in which the equipment were being used and level of background noise.
